Full Circle Spiritual Care
We decided to tackle the challenging opportunity of identifying many of the aspects of ministry within the healthcare environment. Steve's challenge to us was, "Can you take apart what you do, explain it and then put it back together?" The response we received to this question was fascinating. Some just smiled in an accommodating way and changed the subject or pretended their pager was going off. Others immediately reacted saying, "No, you can't. What we do is 'provide ministry' to those in need and there is a 'mystery' that can't be taken apart and defined!" And then there were the directors and each of them seemed to look with eager anticipation at the challenge and opportunity.
Months of thinking, reading, reacting and challenging each other have led us to this point. Now we're ready to try our ideas out on you. We believe our Centura Chaplain Full Circle Ministry contains four components; Rapport Building, Spiritual Assessment, Intervention and Outcomes. We're incorporating this approach into our part of Centura's Electronic Medical Records (Meditech) and we're excited about doing our part to contribute in an intentional way to both the mystery of ministry and the evidence based approach of the care team. We're not yet sure where the journey will take us, but we're looking forward to what lies ahead!
We're learning and welcome your thoughts and ideas. Join the journey with us, help us learn, become more adept at understanding "our mystery" and challenge us to always remain true to our calling.
Here is what we're thinking, and we'll add, change and modify as we go!
